On October 29, 2009 Congressman Arcuri questioned Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood during a Highways and Transit Subcommittee Hearing to discuss the impact of distracted driving on roadway safety. Witnesses discussed efforts and options for combating distracted driving, and integrating emerging technologies in a manner that does not jeopardize roadway safety. This hearing was part of the Subcommittee's efforts to authorize Federal surface transportation programs. Other witnesses included a State highway safety administrator, representatives from academia, the wireless industry, the trucking industry, a labor union, and highway safety advocates
