On a whim, I brought some basic forging supplys out to the cabin to try out some pit forging..It came out pretty good! I improvised the blower using an air matress inflater and some steel pipe. What resulted was a very servicable spear point..

  • I could have made a breath powered blower. Im also working on a box bellows without much successs." Primitive" in this case might better read as "improvised" the purpose of this idea was to find out what I can do with what I happen to have around. Most cannot afford much and want to get into making some of their own tools and this type of project is a great way to practice fabricating a forge and accessories with found items.

  • Wow! Man what a nice place to work. Great job!

  • primitive electric pomp ??? XD

  • Consder getting a small but heafty log to affix it to and drill holes to bolt it on. You'll get better returns.

  • Absolutly! Africans and many others forge right out of what amounts to a campfire. all you really need to start is a good set of channel locks, two steel pipes that the handles of the channel locks fit snugly in for a set of tongs, some rather inexpensive 2lb hammers of various types, a hunk of rainroad rail. I have seen bellows made out of garbage bags, hair dryers, and of course inflaters from a air matress...theres a lot of info out there for getting started with smithing..

  • This is great. I've always wanted to do some smithing but thought you'd need an anvil, forge, special coal and such. It's good to see how simple you've made this. Thanks!

  • Wow nice work i am a bit of a blacksmith myself, but seriously really nice work.
