http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org How can we help our children on the Autism Spectrum use sounds and words to communicate to us what they are wanting and not wanting? The first step to this is to be very responsive and celebratory when our children are making sounds.
This short video demonstrates how we can respond when our children are making sounds even when we do not clearly understand what they are saying.

Here at the Autism Treatment Center of America we see that the more we can respond with an action to our child's sounds, the more they use them to communicate with us.

Enjoy listening, celebrating and responding to your child's verbal communications.

  • Hi my name is Jay , I live in california and i have a 7 year old non verbal son. The techniques you guys use are the exact opposite that Advance Kids uses with my son. They have us ignore him when he stems like that, they refuse to work with him on any form of communication besides pext book. My son used to talk and i believe he still can. Please post more techniques, what to do when S.I.B's are going on? he bangs his head a lot. Advance Kids always change they're advice, on week its ignore it,
