@richieliberties I haven't read the book, but my opinion is "take what you feel is good, leave the rest". But in the good are the lessons from the past, they seem important to me to ensure all kind of progress, though this very matter is questionable : the idea of progress itself suggests a "final destination" to where we're going... And this destination's an indefinite. But then, to return to the question, I think it's okay to worship a certain past, as long as we focus on our current choices.
