"Mouchette", the very classic among all teen suicide movies, was directed by Robert Bresson in 1967 and is based on a novel by George Bernanos, published in 1937. It tells the tragic story of Mouchette (Nadine Nortier, in her only role), a girl just entering adolescence who lives in a rural French village.
This video summarizes the film in two parts, with a total running time of 25 minutes. I made it that long so that the whole bunch of people who are in a way responsible for Mouchette's death could fit in. To emphasize the loneliness and despair of the girl, leading her to the fatal decision, I added a new soundtrack: "The Noise", a song written and performed by Toronto-based band Austra, featuring the voice of Katie Stelmanis and included in the album "Feel It Break" (2011). But it also includes the original soundtrack composed by Claudio Monteverdi: "Vespro Della Beata Vergine (Magnificat: Deposuit potentes)" and performed by Jean Wiener.
