"Stop The Cavalry" is a song written and originally performed by the musician Jona Lewie.

The song peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart in December 1980. The song was never intended as a Christmas hit, but the line 'Wish I was at home for Christmas' as well as the brass band arrangements made it an appropriately styled song to play around Christmas time.

This version is by The Cory Band with The Gwalia Singers.

  • This actually isn't a Christmas song, it is a soldier complaining about war, written by Jona Lewie. Check out his video. I'm in Seattle and I always thought of it as a Christmas song too.

  • @patte3243 - Well, anything can become a Christmas song. The lyrics do say "Wish I was at home for Christmas". My Favorite Things isn't really a holiday song but for some reason people play it during the holiday season. And I do mention the orgination of the song in the description.

  • @patte3243 - And I put "Christmas Song" in the title because I knew that's how most people know it and it would be easier to find that way :-)

  • I remember KOMO radio, AM1000, used to play this all the time back in Seattle. No one here in Ohio has really heard of it.

  • @ohiobirds0519 - Warm 106.9 in Seattle plays 24 hour holiday music from about mid November til the first of the year. They play this song several times a week :-)

  • One of the best songs for Christmas, especially with out men and women overseas. Think of them when this song is being played.

  • It is a song that makes one want to dance and sing and laugh all at the same time. i do not have enough good words to describe my feelings while listening to it.! Makes me think of my children when they were little..

  • hmmh... I like it / Ich mag es ... ;-)

  • @firecatforty It's probably b/c of the heavy British influence that bleeds over from Western Canada. Pacific North-westerners and British Canadians weren't separated with a huge war like out East, just a international border that got penned in there around the late 1800's.

  • I grew up 60 miles North of Seattle in Oak Harbor. My Father served at NAS Whidbey and this was his favorite song that would play on the radio. KOMO of course. Now I'm 35, in the army and in Korea while my Wifey is in Lynnwood. This has now become MY Christmas song.

  • i love this song, but for some reason when they start singing, i laugh :)

  • Merry Christmas!!!

  • All time favorite Christmas song. The Corey Band is the original. My mother always loved this song it was a classic in their home, we moved to Seattle 20+ years ago and I was young and remember that she heard it on KOMO and she was in tears. Years later I called KOMO to ask Brian Nelson if he knew where I could buy a copy for my mother, ultimately I found a used UK import copy at Cellophane Square in Bell Sq Mall and my mother cried again when she received the gift. It remains my favorite C
