Bailey's doing a voice over for a doco on TVNZ news made in the 2000s (or perhaps even the late 1990s), she is using the original news broadcast of 1979 as overlay.

Wasn't this too early for Judy Bailey to be at TVNZ? She may have still been at South Pacific Television (which became TV2) then. But I may be wrong...it's been a while now!

not quite..it was tom mulgrew, a climbing companion of sir ed's, who's wife june went on to become sir ed's 2nd wife. his 1st wife died in a plane crash in the himalayas

i was studying for school cert, science the next day. still remember the radio saying the flight was overdue...then a few hours later that it could no longer be in the air as it would have run out of fuel...almost everyone in nz knew someone on that flight

I think if I remember rightly Sir Ed Hillary's Wife and climbing colleague were on board - some thing like that anyway.
