A-Z ON HOW TO BECOME AN IPS OFFICER.
IPS COMES UNDER ALL INDIA SERVICE. AND THE RECRUITMENT TO THE SERVICE IS CONDUCTED BY UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION (UPSC). FOR THIS UPSC CIVIL SERVIE EXAM, THE NOTIFICATION GENERALLY COMES IN MONTH OF DECEMBER AND THE EXAMINATION CARRIES IN 3 PHASES STARTING FROM 1) PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION (STARTS 2nd WEEK OF MAY), 2) MAINS EXAM (STARTS IN MONTH OF OCTOBER) & LAST IS 3) INTERVIEW (WILL HELD DURING MARCH-APRIL).THERE IS A HIGH COMPETITION FOR THE POSTS EVN THOUGH THE POSTS NORMALLY WILL BE VERY VERY LESS, SAY AT MAX WITHIN 250 FOR BOTH IAS & IPS AND THE ASPIRANTS WHO TAKE THESE EXAMS ARE SOMEWAT 5 LAKH A YEAR STARTING FROM PRELIMINARY EXAM. SO, THE CUT-OFF LIST IS HUGE FOR EACH PHASE OF EXAM AND WHO ALL QUALIFIES WILL GET THEIR PREFERD POSTS ACCORDING TO THEIR MERIT. AND THERE IS 4 ATTEMPTS FOR GENERAL (GM) AND 7 ATTEMPTS FOR OBCs AND ANY NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS FOR SC & STs. BUT THIS COMES UNDER AGE LIMIT OF 30 YRS. AND THERE IS EXTENSION ACCORDING TO UR ABOVE MENTIONED CATEGORIES.
ELGIBILTY FOR THIS EXAM IS, U MUST HAVE ATTENED 21 YRS OF AGE AND U MUST HAVE A UNDER GRADUATE DEGREE FRM ANY UNIVERSITY.

AND ONCE YOU GET SELECTED TO THE MERIT LIST YOUR TRAINING / RECRUTING PERIOD STARTS

THE TRAINING PERIOD FOR IPS IS AS FOLLOWS.
(i)FOUNDATION TRAINING 4 MONTHS LBSNAA, MUSSOORIE.
(ii)PROFESSIONAL TRAINING (1st SPELL) 12 MONTHS SVPNPA, HYDERABAD.
(iii)DISTRICT TRAINING 8 MONTHS STATES
(iv)PROFESSIONAL TRAINING (2nd SPELL) 3 MONTHS - FIELD

SO TOTAL THEY UNDERGO 27 MONTHS OF TRAINING BEFORE POSTED AS ADDITIONAL SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE or S.P.

comin 2 ur doubt abt d spl forcs....bro as far as i got info frm d seniors n read in books....it says, few section of selected officers r put in2 spl team whr they undergo certain spl training such as Adv Firing, combat, OT,CQB etc.. which is 2 b thought by Para n othr spl forces 2CPF,STF n othr operational forces for whom d job is assigned with..

so, if u r well deserved, thn they themselves pick u n promote u 2 undergo those training n assign u with imp tasks 2 Accomplish..

An IPS is supposed to be a pious job(though people don't take it like that).An IPS grows from quite low job..from a probationer who takes charge of a police station to a DGP who may take charge of whole state or a paramilitary force.A lot of power is vested in these officers but again sad thing is that most of them don't exercise them properly.Still I have faith in Indians and i would love to see our IPS officers serving the nation and not just fighting in PHQ for good post.

is this for reals???most of the ips officers are fat and out of shape and have a bad aim.I used to represent my state at nationals for pistol shooting.and have seen most of the ips officers with a terrible aim.
