The Golden Compass: "I Have a Contract with the Girl"

Based on author Philip Pullman's bestselling and award-winning novel, The Golden Compass tells the first story in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people's souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who's been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well. The Golden Compass stars an ensemble cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, and Ian McShane. The film is written and directed by Chris Weitz (About A Boy, Antz) and produced by Deborah Forte and Bill Carraro (Frequency). It is executive produced by Andrew Miano and Paul Weitz (In Good Company). The Golden Compass is scheduled for a Dec. 7, 2007 release.

@DarthZimmeris Yea, I read the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass after seeing the first film, it was confusing trying to figure out what had happened to Roger. I'm reading Northern Lights now and i'm already loving it, but I can see, from the parts i've read at the moment, why fans of the book might be disapointed with the film, they missed out quite a lot and i'm only half way through. That and I can't really imagine Lyra differently after seeing Dakota play her.

@lonewolfando They aren't going to, at least not as of now... the books are amazing, really very amazing, but: even if you had read, this film became a little confusing in parts, and for those who never read it was a disaster. The director really messed it up, and while I enjoy this movie, I can see why a lot of people did not.

The had better make The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass after all of the 'Harry Potter' and 'Twilight' craze dies down. In the hands of a great director, the trilogy has the potential to become a great film.

I really want to see Lyra and Will, although by the time the movies are produced, Dakota will be to old.

This scene is awesome.

A) they're scared of the bear

B) Lee is threatening to shoot the guy who's threatening to shoot Lyra

C) the Gyptians are threatenig to shoot the people who are threatening to shoot Lyra.
