Sorry the subtitles are a bit fast sometimes, I tried my best but it wasn't recording with the intention of using text, and it's the first time I've ever done a video like this or used this program, so be nice ;0;
Any questions, please ask and I'll do my best.
This is how I mix my own silver dye. It's only the second time I've done it so it's certainly by no means refined, but I'm sure it'll give you ideas. I've found this to last longer than any one silver dye.
Things to note:
-You should only apply this to bleached hair, that which has reached the lightest shade it can go. The image of me at the end of this video gives you a good idea of what 100% bleached hair looks like. My hair will not bleach lighter than that, or it'll will fall apart.
-Silver is difficult to maintain as it washes out very quickly. You can help it last by using silver/white shampoos, or by adding dye to your own shampoo/conditioner (I explain at the bottom). This is true to most pastel dyes.
-This is done with semi permanent vegetable dyes, they do not contain peroxide. You can mix pretty much any dye, but I'd advise against mixing peroxide dyes unless you have someone very experienced teaching you how. I am so not that person XD
-For my dip dyed ends and the layered fringe, I just put purple dye over the top of the silver, nothing special, as it was light enough already. I can post a video next time I do it to show you how, but you'll totally feel stupid after because it's so easy.
- Dye stains things, be neat and aware of where you're putting your hands and things. Even wearing gloves... you still get dye on your gloves. We rent, so it's massively important I watch what I'm doing.
- You should not use anything about a 20vol on your scalp. you can debate this all you want, but as far as safety goes, stick with the 20 vol. If you have a tough scalp, you can go up to 40vol, but... seriously, in some places authorities have banned it being sold and even used in salons.I talk about it with hairdressers all the time and I've never met one who uses it. It's in your best interest that i say it, but really, if you want to use it, go ahead. I can't stop you, but I reaaallly want to :(
Products used are Manic Panic Lie Locks, and Directions Ebony. I suggest a cheap white coloured condition to dilute them, but if you have the money to spend on a high quality conditioner, this is actually a good chance to use it.
To maintain it, I added about a tablespoon of Manic Panic lie locks to my shampoo and conditioner (so a tablespoon to about 750ml). I've washed it about 3 times since (not including the initial wash to fade out the blue) and it's held up very well.
Where do I buy my dye?
Unfortunately Australia has a serious lack of hair dye, let alone cheap hair dye. The markup on hair products here is freaking insane, and there's no way I support that shit ($18 a tube, fuck off). So I import! 8D
Directions: http://stores.ebay.com.au/RUPTURED-AMBITIONS-Punk-Distro/Hair-Colours-/_i.htm... (I love this store - $18 for two tubs and shipping, less for even more tubs)
Manic Panic: http://www.beserkclothing.com/manic-panic-c-200.html ($18 for one tub + shipping, but they do overnight if you order before 1pm, and MP have far more of a selection than what we can usually get over here.
But in all seriousness, it is so easy to find hair dye, just google it, or do an ebay search.
Don't want to mix your dye?
http://www.hairdyegallery.co.uk/Gallery-brand.html - Search this gallery to find a dye you'd like to put in your hair. Makes things so easy!
Other semi-permanent options I've tried are Directions Silver, and Pravana Silver. directions lasted about one wash before it just looked like an ash blonde, a Pravana probably about 3 washes. Fanci-full also make good washes for things like this. I'm really not the best person to ask about the easiest way to do things, as you can probably tell.
Other stuff:
This was filmed with my Canon 5Dmk2, 50m 1.8 lens. Photos were done by me also, using the same gear. I used Cyberlink PowerDirecto to edit. Bird and crazy bird lady also hang around here.
Music:
White Noise - Mogwai
Inner Peace - Jon Hopkins
Lights (Fear of Tigers remix) - Ellie Goulding
White Rabbit - Emiliana Torrini
Do you still have the ebony color? I was wondering witch color can I get if I mix ebony and the conditioner, I was looking for a more darker gray, like this one: h t t p : / / bit. ly/x58I3M (without the spaces) I almost reach the color actually (but using purple pigment) but on the lights it turns kinda darker purple.. Can you make a test for me? ;; I don't have the ebony color :(
Thanks!

@TheDisdoa unfortunately the ebony there is actually just a REALLY dark green, so it just goes kind of a dark blue/green when mixed with conditioner :< I'd love to get that colour too. Sorry I can't help! Maybe if you mixed a dark blue with the purple it might kind of even the pigment out but I'm not 100% sure - sorry! Good luck <3
