For decades the Plains Hotel, on the corner of Albert St. and Victoria Avenue, was a weather vane for Regina's blues scene. Bluesmen from across Canada performed there. Among them were Winnipeg's Big Dave McLean, world-renowned Amos Garrett, and Regina's own Colin James and Jack Semple. Good Time Charlies was a regular stop on their touring schedules because it was a great space with good beer and a solid patronage of loyal fans.

Charlies Coming Down, a documentary produced by Birdsong Communications and directed by Donald List, follows the last days of this historic Regina beer-parlour and tells its story through the eyes of musicians, patrons and staff who were there. It features performances by "Big" Dave McLean, Ralph Ell, the Deep Dark Woods and culminates with The Last Bash featuring the Celtic-metal band - Celtica.
