2003 Midlands Quarterfinals- Joe Williams en route to his 10th straight Midlands Title
Andy Roy loses in overtime 8-6 on two controversial calls. Gets the takedown, but it isn't called. Gets taken down at the edge when both guys are out of bounds. (The old out of bounds rule)
@TWM2975 Sorry, I meant '03, but was thinking of something else as I was typing.

This was the Midlands session I missed in 1999, but you couldn't go two feet during the finals session without people talking about it.
I have to wonder if the ref was looking at the whizzer that Joe threw in at the last minute instead of the far ankle control that Roy had on this one. Either way, Williams stopped moving, Roy had control of both ankles, so a whizzer is negated by the two! Really good match.

that was a clear takedown, watch marienetti vs. mcilravy, same situation, if your opposite knee touches the ground (both knees) and you have the hip that is two points, simple really.

Joe is a beast, grip like a gorilla glue, if he got a leg you can pretty much gurantee you were going down!

I don't think he was robbed of the takedown. I never saw control....NEVER.
I think the ref called it right, no takedown for Roy, Take Down for Williams.
I will admit, it was hard to really tell without the out of bounds being painted white
