Its a convention center, plain and simple, student orgs can't use any of the space for programs because they are all booked 10 months in advance not to mention the student orgs have to be $1000++ to use any of the good rooms in the building. Just another way for the University to nickel and dime its students
@alm08xo yes, i went there once.... like i said it is a waste of student's money... and most students (except you) agree with me. I was hoping there would be a bowling alley or a game room (pool) but instead the administration decided to build more offices and charge the students for it. It isn't anything we didn't already have on campus, now they just charge us for it.
@alm08xo--- I am a realist and that is why I acknowleged in my original post that Ohio State probably needed to make the changes it did to stay compet
@alm08xo--- I plan to visit the new union as soon as I get the chance and I'm sure I'll be impressed with it. When I said it was sad to visit my old campus and see all the changes, I was referring to my own sentimental "good memories" and did not mean to imply that I "really want" to see the various buildings falling apart! Obviously, even in my most sentimental state, I would prefer building maintenance of the old treasures that exist now only in my memories!
@Jbreed2011 Have you been in the union? It is completely for the students! There are many rooms dedicated for organizations that better things for the students and also offices for the 200+ STUDENT organizations on campus. Not to mention the ample study rooms, computers, lounges, discount tickets and 2 places to eat. What more could the students ask for? Maybe you should take the time and explore the opportunites the union offers for its students.
@WorthySir we are about tradition! Do you really want to come back and see buildings falling apart? If you took the time to go into the new union, you'd see all of the dedications to the old union as well as other past buildings on campus. They have all 3 of the doors from past unions inside the new one. Now that's tradition!
Total waste of money. Atleast try to make it worth it for the students. I still have yet to did a reason why it was needed in the times i've been there.
I love my school. Our main library was completely renovated and our RPAC (recreation and physical activity center) is amazing. Pretty soon we'll have this, too. I realize that the costs from all of these luxuries will be passed on to us, the students. However, I have no problem justifying it. The benefit(s) definitely outweight the cost(s).
I think it looks amazing. I'm holding an event there the first week it opens and am very excited!
One of the problems of architecture is looking date, and it's often unavoidable.
I spent about 1/3rd of my college career in the old union, and while I loved it, it was in awful shape. Tradition is one thing, but practical building choices (it was falling apart!) are another. They incorporated so many features (literally, they saved parts of the old one) so the tradition remains!
wow.. love the buildings and the arts,.,
