Nocioceptors like Estrogen Receptors are Found in almost every Tissue of the Animals Body [see Vets in Practice BBC] and have Connections to nerves which are ACTIVATED when the Nocioceptor is Disturbed setting off a nerve Impulse called a Sensory Nerve ACTION Potential (a SNAP for short) which is sent to the ( Dorsal Root Ganglion-DRG) and into the Spinal Cord in Specific Neuroanatomical Pathways (Spinothalamic Tract) to the Brain & The Cerebral Cortex for Interpretation.

This is so true!!!!!! When your headache gets to this point this is when you can't treat yourself. You have about a 4 hour window when an attack hits. It is so important to take your medicines then. You don't want to let it get to this point. At this point it is so severe it is called "intractable" and usually ER is needed.
