Turk Murphy and His Frisco Jazzband - When you're smiling 1974

(Original by Louis Armstrong)

When you're smiling
When you're smiling
The whole world smiles with you

When you're laughing
And you're laughing
The sun comes shining through

And when you're crying
You bring on the rain
So stop your sighing
Be happy again

When you're smiling
Keep on smiling
And the whole world smiles with you

(Instrumental)

When you're smiling
When you're smiling
The whole world smiles with you

When you're laughing
And you're laughing
The sun comes shining through

And when you're crying
You bring on the rain
So stop your sighing
Be happy again

When you're smiling
Keep on smiling
And the whole world smiles with you

  • Singer is Jimmy Stanislaus, Also Turk Used drums sometimes, Example Thad Vanden and Stan Ward. Turk just wanted a drummer that would add to the music which is very hard to find.

  • Jimmy is one great singer!! Knew him in the 60's when we lived in Oakland. He was a very close friend of the family and most in the family referred to him as Grandpa. Very awesome to see and hear him here in YouTube.

  • Is he trying to sound like Louis Armstrong?

  • Pete Klute, piano

  • Jimmy Stanislaus vocal; Turk Murphy trombone, washboard, Bob Helm, Clarinet,

Carl Lunsford, banjo, Bill Carroll, tuba, trombone, Leon Oakley, cornet.

  • @ToweringInfernoOrch My mom used to go out with Than Vanden in New York City in the 1950's. I was just a kid about 6 and she took me to a rehearsal of the Turk Murphy band with Thad on drums. I had never heard live music before and was completely blown away as I sitting about 10 feet in front of the stage. I've been a fan of American "Roots" music ever since, especially jazz and blues. Listening to them now, I realize how fortunate I was to have that experience. I owe Thad and Turk alot.

  • I was looking for something completely different when what should I see on the sidebar but a link to "Turk Murphy and His Frisco Jazz Band". I love serendipity. Back in the 60s when I was a teenager, KRHM in L.A. broadcast "Strictly From Dixie" hosted by Benson Curtis from 5-6 every night. I won't say I never missed it, but most nights it was on when I was supposed to be doing homework. First heard Turk Murphy then. 1/2 a century later I now know what he looks like! And still sounds great

  • yeah! roxy musak

  • @1wgt I may not be as old as yourself but I count myself a fan for well over 40 years too. Funny thing was, the one time I made it to Frisco on vacation ('73), McGoon's was closed for the Christmas holidays. So I never got to see Turk either. This may be the best trad. group I've ever listened to.

  • sry aba the iphone 4 werbung wurde von louis amstrong gesungen (alt aufnahme)

  • I,m an old f--- just now learning how to drive this computer. Got to McGoon's twice while on vacation and missed Turk both times. I am elated to at last see him in ac tion. I think I may have everything he ever recorded. As a fan, I go back to 1951. LONG LIVE THE TURK1
