The Grass Roots perform "Midnight Confessions" August 6, 2010 at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY.

This was the replacement Grass Roots show for the partial rainout from 2009 (see our videos from that show). During the soundcheck, we wondered who the new guy was playing bass, it certainly was not Rob Grill.

After the show, a quick internet search found the answer. Rob Grill took ill the end of July, about one week before this show. Mark Dawson joined the tour to fill in for Rob, as he did in 2008.

While we miss the beloved Rob Grill, one has to be impressed with this performance. Mark joined the tour at a moments notice, and the group did not miss a beat. Mark's voice is terrific and he certainly can play that bass. The band was tight and never sounded better.

As of October 2010, Mark Dawson is now the full time bassist and lead vocalist, and Rob Grill does special appearances with the group.

Enjoy!

  • Thanks a million, 55KatDaddy

  • Which "real" band are you referring to, cforssi?? The classic lineup hasn't been around for decades. I've seen 4 incarnations of the Grass Roots over the last 35 years (never the same line-up). Mark Dawson does a GREAT job (I've been a Grass Roots fan since 1968)-just watched him today in Altoona Iowa. I didn't feel cheated at all (& I'm pretty knowlegeable about classic bands & their lineups).

  • This guy does a good job but it is not the same without the REAL band. This is a Grassroots tribute band now.

  • I was at the same concert....this guy is okay but I'm sorry no one can or will ever replace Rob Grill...a one of kind voice!!!

  • How about some old video of Dreamer???????????

  • Mark is such a great fit, filling in for Rob, thanks Mark!!
