This is a very serious condition in infants that involves sudden upward jerking motions that occur in clusters. If your child presents these symptoms, contact your physician or a neurologist immediately.
My daughter had these spasms. She was on phenobarbital for 3 months and then we weaned her off and hasn't had one since. She had them since she was born and hasn't had any learning disabilities. She's 7 months now and crawling, and doing great.
Most likely no intellectual or cognitive disability as such in adulthood. It is caused by a disruption to the electrical potential of the poles of brain lobes, most commonly measured are occipital, frontal and temporal.
So do these spasms mean that the baby could have a learning or mental disability in the future??.. My nephew just had a 1day EEG and they said that he was indeed having seizures but they couldn't say what the problem was yet, we'd just have to wait and see in the next few months/yrs.. he's 8 months..
i dnt meen to sound rude but i want to be a doctor for lil babys wen i grow up n i was wonderin if ya no wat causes babys to have random jerks like that?and is it something they eventualy grow out of?
My son was having the same Infantile spasms at 5 months old, he is on something called SABRIL have you tried this?? he hasnt had any type of episode since June 29th 2008
