I just want to call attention to something that's going on in France.

If you thought Europe is the worlds pillar of open-mindedness, social progress and free speech, you might be wrong.

At least when it comes to France.

A french house wife of 51 years old, in her blog, called the french minister of family affairs "a liar". Actually the comment was more like "oh what a liar", more than a direct accusation. This was enough for her to be called for a police questioning, and she is now charged with public slandering of a politician.

I don't think it should be necessary to point out what a blatant attack this is to free speech and transparency in the society.

It is of the upmost importance that the people of a nation is allowed to question their leaders.

I'd like to call out for anyone in a position that makes them able to do something about this, to act against such oppression.

UPDATE:
The charges agaisn the woman has been dropped after massive critique and debate in France.

  • Oh wow.

That's ridiculous. I wish I could say I'm in a position to have some impact..

  • That is a dangerous path!

What a blow to free speech!
