JD DID interact more with INXS, but I think the band wanted him because he presented the rebel image they were looking for to get attention ten years after they were most relevant. Not to mention he DOES kind of sound like Hutchence. I wasn't a huge fan of the New Wave stuff during the 80s, I got into them with this show, and still not a huge fan of their original work, like more these covers.

You can see why INXS picked him over Marty. JD's singing is dead-on, and he's interacting with the band instead of treating them like his backup group. I remember thinking JD had no chance going into the last few episodes, and then halfway through this song realizing "WOW! He's going to win this!" He was such a better fit than Marty would have been. Too bad JD fell in love with the nose candy.

I think he is really trying to sing like Michael but nowhere close. JD is a great singer in his own right. Michael was unique, he was beautiful, when he walked onto a stage he not only owned it but he made you swoon. His magnetic sex appeal was so huge...He created an atmosphere that cannot be copied nor should anyone try. What angers me most when a band has to get a new lead singer for whatever reason please let the guy be himself like Sammy Hagar when he replaced Dave Lee Roth. Be Original

I would love to do a Pepsi Challenge kind of test with people with live versions of What You Need. There's no way anyone would be able to tell the difference. He sounds JUST like MH here.

Wow compared to live versions of MH I just listened to & watched this feels like karaoke. I really do not mean any offense but MH was head & shoulders above both Marty and JD ... and Marty was better than JD IMHO.
