Gay Cinema Review: Shank

There are very, very few films out there that shock the hell out of you and make you want more at the same time. Quite frankly; some people can't handle it. Earlier this year the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival refused to support their gay British filmmakers by not programming this film because it too racy and raw. Clearly, they couldn't handle it. I don't know about you, but I really can't get enough of films that are not afraid to push boundaries and Shank is certainly the film that does put you on edge.

Here in the US, this brilliant, risque yet often-times sentimental narrative has been overwhelmingly received. People just can't get enough of it—especially with cutie Cal played by Wayne Virgo and beefy Jonno played by Tom Bott. Now, I'm not going to waste your time telling you how much I love this film because I want you to go right to the video and watch Rexx and Nick Starr drool all over the boys... and the film.

@SHANKMOVIE:Guys who ain´t got any experience with bisexuality could probably not act like Wayne in such a movie.Many in Germany guess that footballer Mario Gomez is most probably gay, but he´s not forced to come out...amazing is only, that now + then he gets asked about tips for gay footballers in the closet..Anyone who has a good notice how society´s been changing during the last 20-30 years also realizes the increased spreading of (partly still "hidden"-but nevertheless visible) bisexuality.

@SHANKMOVIE:Thanks a lot - on the other hand i´d wish they´d do films like Shank in Germany. There is a lot of feministic hypocrisy going on here. Sadly the hypocritical form of alleged "political correctness" is available among left-wingers + extreme right-wingers, recently the chairman of the (rather small + unimportant) fake-neo-anzi party NPD gave a press declaration where he demanded "tolerance" for him + his wife: Reason: The had been refused admission to a wellness hotel in East Germany !

I was surprised they gave it 4 Homopops.. It was an okay movie but it was lacking in several ways. For one, they didn't define the main character well. In the beginning he's risking his position in the gang by taking it from random guys but when he's with the French guy he is a complete top. Also, their relationship to me just didn't seem real; the Frenchman was sweet, soft, careless, and utterly vulnerable while the main character was secretive, reserved, tough, and introspective.
