This is a Drum Cover to the Black Eyed Peas song Let's Get It Started. I really enjoy playing to this song, its got a pumping feel to it, and leaves a lot of room for improvisation.

This is not exactly a cover. I play to the beat of the song, but i like to add my own touch to it. I am not trying to be accurate, just trying to have fun.

Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (Radio Edit) from the 2003 release Elephunk is the copyrigthed property of its owner.

Technical Information:

I record using the Samson 8-Piece Drum Microphone Kit - Includes: (1) Q-Kick, (1) Q-Snare, (3) Q-Tom, (2) C01 Overhead and (1) C02H Hihat Microphone. My toms used to be mic'd from the bottom, and although it gave me some nice sound, i have recently switched to recording all my drums from above. I use two overhead microphones to capture all the cymbals sounds, as well as the overall expression of the kit. The hi-hat is mic'd with a Sure SM-58 Microphone. I run all the XLRs through to a mixer. Each drum is pre-equalized separately to give the best sound. After running all of the cables into my mixer, i run a stereo out from my mixer to my computer. I then move on to mastering, leveling, mixing, and finally compressing and exporting the final track.

I run the track that i am recording to through my computer with the monitor from the mixers stereo input, and then out through my "Monster Beats Solo HD High Definition On-ear Headphones". So while blocking out all the sound i here my drums as they would sound on the recording as well as the song i am playing to through the headphones.

After the final track is exported proceed to match it to the three video tracks using final cut, i then proceeded to cut and reprocess each of the three video tracks which allows me to alternate them throughout the video. For all of the video editing i used Final Cut Express 4.

  • got skills, but i think you're trying to play rock drums over what is supposed to be hip hop. simplify a bit more man. too many symbols, your timing is slightly off with 'em too (not a lot tho). if i just listen to the audio, it also sounds like you're just hitting out at symbols rather than making a musical choice. too many drum rolls, and that disco beat on the break just doesn't seem to work for me. check out some good hip hop drummers like questlove. keep playing man, and good luck.

  • @deependful thank you for watching, and i appreciate the critique. I will definitely take what you said into consideration. Please check out my other videos and let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Al-Shal

  • you're AWSOME!!!! :)

  • your pretty good. you might want to get better mics. other than that good job

  • close your mouth!!!

  • This is great my man!!! If I could give two bits of advice???

    1) I think you should relax your arms a bit more, you don't look like you're having much fun lol, even though i bet you are

    2) from side view you look like you're at least 2 feet away from the set, I would move up a little more.

other than that your playing is superb!!! :)

  • Good, But cymbals are a bit overused

    Peace.

  • @MikeeyWebs thanks, please help spread word and keep watching. There will be alot more to come!

    Thanks,

    Al-Shal
