Holy cow how did this comment get voted up so much, she had Nixon level approval ratings and nearly tripled the number of people in poverty.
The only reason she held on to power was because of the Falklands.

@rjd071983It isn't that I was accusing you of being against Catholics. I was asking if you saw it appropriate to send the military into ordinary people's home's and communities.

Thatcher caused great misery for lots of people, and her legacy remains. I am a young man and like all other young working class or middle class people not be able to move into social housing because Thatcher sold them. I will, most likely, end up trapped with a massive mortgage or living in social housing that can by no one be considered fit to shelter human beings.

@maartenMLMS Not really. For me, I make no distinction between Catholics and Protestants. It just so happens that a lot of the IRA strongholds are in Catholic Communities. I don't mean that in a stereotypical way just because they are Catholic, it doesn't mean they are IRA Sympathisers. For what it's worth, I am an atheist (Richard Dawkins style).

I can't believe Thatcher showed so much restraint. I would have been tempted to have sent the Army into the Republic and have them commit raids against IRA strong holds. Hopefully the Irish Government would have woken up to the fact that Britain wasn't going to sit idly by, and let these IRISH terrorists start a war.
