  • it breaks my heart to see people shooting portrait with on camera flash casting all those ugly shadows. Yes flash brackets are ok, but i prefer using my flash off camera using a flash cord and bouncing my flash.

  • I could not agree more, The course develops from the camera flash, used correctly to off camera flash using Grids, umbrellas and softboxes. Balancing with ambient etc. Terry

  • I am planning to produce a new video without the dreaded

    sto-fen so watch this space.

  • one more question, what do you teach your students when it comes to getting the exposure right? do you have to swith shutter speed or ap every time you move around with the bride and groom? or just use one of the auto settings?

  • Hi, at a wedding I will use either tv, av or m depending upon the shot. I do not have time to take meter readings apart from when I am shooting the bride and groom on their own. In camera reflected light readings sometimes and also balancing ambient with flash through the use of the shutter speed. I work with the flash on a bracket as well as on a light stand with radio triggers.

  • everyone who has one of those stupid flash diffusers on, obviously doesn't know how diffusers work. Hopefully they will learn someday that it just reduces intensity of the flash, and also messes up your ETTL metering.

  • Exactly, That is what I teach the delegates. Those that use them stop using them after my course. The whole course is about firstly controlling your flash on camera (brackets preferred) and then off camera on light stands and skyport triggers with umbrellas. We have to start somewhere and how not to do it is where we start then progress to how it should be done.

  • @amacher58 if your gonna bounce your flash why u taking it off camera?the main point for taking flash off camera is to be able to use it direct with diffusion at certain angles..i tink its perfectly fine to use flash on camera if ur bouncing wont make much of a difference wer u put it if your just gonna bounce anyway.

  • Do you know many of you missed potentially good expressions while you where chimping on your lcd's. have faith i your expertise. Do you think film photographers had lcd's to check their work?

  • Great!
