  • Mariah wrote this for her Christmas album.

  • ????? whoa pump those breaks. I'm not sure what mariah carey you've been listening to but there is no comparison to melissa and mariah. Melissa screams with mariah has PERFECT vocal control. I also believe mariah is in the world book of records for a 7 octive vocal range. check your facts before making such a ridiculous comment!

  • This song had to have been very, very difficult, even in the studio, so I really applaud them for attempting it live. There are songs almost too hard to do live, but a courageous vocalist will do it. And this was with a local choir backing, not musicians who'd known the song for years. Came off pretty well, I'd say.

  • I understand that many of you have your opinions about either Melissa or Mariah being better. I honestly like the Avalon recording with Cherie the best. Mariah's album version is a bit different from Avalon's version, plus I believe that nothing sounds as good as the recording (due to the fact that they have the programs out there to tighten vocals that may have gone off a bit). Mariah is a gifted signer and so is Melissa. Mariah has more head voice than Melissa, but Melissa can still sing

  • what are all you peeps talking bout? Melissa is amazing! her voice is awesome! she has so much power, unlike Mariah Carey who can't even sing anymore... just a fact. im sure she used to be able to sing, but nowadays she sounds really bad. Melissa's voice is still going strong. It may be powerhousing, but i would hardly call it "screaming"

  • I'm so glad someone else with good musical ears hears it! It is what I have been saying about her since she joined the group in '02. Please listen to the original cover to this song by then soprano Cherie Adams. She does not do it as well as Mariah but there is such beauty in her voice. The song was released in Avalon's christmas cd entitled Joy. The soprano singing in the video left the group in '09 & was replaced by Amy Richardson. She has more control of her voice, esp. her high notes.

  • I am glad she loves, serves, & sings 4 the Lord but the fact that anyone is comparing Mariah's voice w/ Melissa's is insulting- to Mariah! Even Cherie (my favorite) didn't DO this song like Mariah. No insult to Melissa, but her voice was OFTEN 'screamy' & loud. Which is why she excelled in songs like I'll Survive & The Other Side. She also was not the best @ harmonizing; she is better off as a solo artist. Hence, never being my favorite soprano in Avalon. A humble opinion from a fellow musician

  • Haha very funny! No one can sing Like Mariah idiot!!!!

  • I was there!!! This was the most godly amazing performance ever. Doesn't shine through in this vid, but man I was floored, and never even heard the song before.

  • Part of me wants to hear a less screamy version of this great song. Soulful singing is beautiful when tastefully done. It just feels like the lead is trying to convince the world that her soulful singing is competent. Listen to the section from 0:58 through the end. Is this what soulful singing has become now that everyone proclaims themselves "competent"? Like I said, it's an amazing song, but this time not amazingly sung. I wonder what CeCe Winans or Oleta Adams would've done with this song?
