base:
took a 4 ft shaft and hammered it into the ground about 2 foot...i have a plate on the bottom mounted so it wont go any deeper...the top part has a bearing which allows it to spin
pivot point: built up the sides with some square tubing and mounted bearings on each side...then ran a shaft through and welded the long square tubing to the shaft...it is pretty much a spinning see-saw

barrel: most important part of a drop barrel is to have the barrel 6 inches away from the pivot point...according to gary leffew that is what makes the drop barrel so effective
counter balance: at the other end of the square tubing are weights...i have them on some all-threads so you can move them back and forth to balance out different riders weights...then you have a handle...it is a big workout for the operator...

all the stuff i got were scraps from junkyard and work...i had to buy the 2 small bearings - they were cheap 3/4" bearings...bout $20 for both...and i bout some square tubing
i think it would work better if you used extension springs instead of a counter weight if you are using your own
