This video concludes my "Richard Elliott Trilogy," the first two being "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and "I Saw Three Ships."

This setting of "Go, Tell It on the Mountain" by Richard Elliott presented a unique set of challenges both in performance and production of this video. Dr. Elliott knows how to please a crowd, and that's exactly what he did at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas Concert in 2008. I've been told he brought down the house all three nights.

The piece gets off to a jazzy start with finger snaps and both feet in the pedal. (With some tricky thirds in the right foot!) The piece concludes with an over-the-top jazzy finish. This style worked so well that Dr. Elliott arranged another spiritual, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," using the same formula. I have posted my own performance of this piece. It can be found in the sidebar or on my profile page.

  • why the snapping? i didnt understand?

  • @ts29325 Finger snaps are indicated on the score.

  • Excellent, Rob.

Euh...shouldn't the finger clicks be on offbeats?

  • @JSC1401 Thanks! The finger snaps are on the right beats. Do a search for "crazy organ solo" and you can see Dr. Elliott's performance for a comparison.

  • Hey Rob, Its Brandon in Logan. WOW !!!!!!!!!! You don,t just play the notes you feel the music with your soul. You have so much talent. Its like Rick, Clay and John all in one.( lol ) Keep it up so I can hear you in the SLC Tabernacle.

  • @bus9965 Hi Brandon, thanks for your kind words. I'm hoping to get back into the groove soon, lately I've been swamped with non-music stuff. You're always invited to come play the Hauptwerk organ.
