Massage Party in Conundrum Hot Springs July 15

About 15 High School kids from Crested Butte, Colorado instigated this massage line in the highest elevation (11,200') hot springs in North America. Fortunately it's only like this on summer weekends. The hot springs is surrounded by mountains up to 14,265'. Pity the poor Aspen billionaires 3300' below us, in their measly chemicalized hot tubs!

Conundrum is administered by the USFS, not BLM. This lasted maybe 3 hours. By morning, the water has changed several times. Nobody has ever gotten any infection or intestinal sickness there that the USFS knows of: we did an FOIA when they were worried and threatening to put it on a reserved permit system. People don't understand that the intense UV solar radiation there in the open meadow kills germs REALLY well. Conundrum has had crowds like this a coupla times a summer for decades.

Oh! what a Conundrum! popular use in the case of unique natural treasures can be mitigated with proper management on a LOCAL basis. don't use the BLM or the USFS as boogeyman. those people are OF there, they got UP there, they STEWARD the trails & land there. access to all should be preserved. if local HS kids care enough to do this, they will care for a lifetime. count me in next time. vx0 is loco.

This is precisely why this spring could get closed down by the BLM. Too damned many people in this delicate alpine environment at the same time. What people don't understand is how It takes forever for the spring to recover from this kind of abuse.
