While the invincible alpha male (named Caesar) without two legs (-R2-L3) was patrolling the horizontal pipe on the right, the next challenger (named Brutus) appeared from the left. Soon they began to fight and grapple each other. What an epic one-on-one combat! After a breathtaking stalemate, Caesar's glorious day was finally over. Brutus, the winner, tried to mate with the hiding female (named Cornelia, subadult) but she waved off his courtship display. Now this place had become Brutus' territory. (to be continued) The whole events (ep01 - 06) was recorded on the same afternoon of early-May 2009 in Japan.

（つづき）冒頭、連勝中のα♂（-R2-L3歩脚欠損）は巡回中で右手のパイプに居る。新しい挑戦者♂（五体満足）が大胆にもα♂の隠れ家に左手から侵入。戦略的に有利な­のか、少し高い所に登ってから示威行動開始。しかし戦っている間に互いに場所を入れ替わる。互角の戦いで白熱した「地取り」に突入。手に汗握る対戦にようやく決着がついた­。なんと無敵だった♂（-R2-L3）が遂に負け、挑戦者が勝利を収めた。右手に逃げた敗者（-R2-L3）を勝者がしばらく追いかける。勝者♂は大胆にも亜成体♀の脱皮­用住居に侵入。喧嘩の間、♀は巣の奥に隠れていたようだ。それを見て先程負けた♂（-R2-L3）が未練がましく戻りかける。やがて新α♂が♀宅から後退りで出てくる。私­の想像ではおそらく中で交接には至らず、♀に叩き出されたのだと思う。♀宅の入り口で必死に求愛するも、今度は頑として中に入れてくれない。身もだえする新α♂。傷心で走­り去る敗者。男はつらいよ。個体識別によって縄張り争い（交接前ガード）における政権交代の生々しいドラマが明らかになり、とても興奮しました。

if they ever end up actually having to fight eachother for real (rather than for dominance/show), how do they kill eachother?

also, in a fight like this does the loser usually go and starve themself or is it not such a serious blow to their confidence?

this is just a ritualized fight between males to get a mating partner.

as far as i know, males of this species do not kill each other.

the loser seems to lose his confidence for some tome.

Im no expert but Cornelia looks like a different species than the other two. Unless the males and females of this species look very different.

the male and the female of this species look very different in body colourations (sexual dimorphism), as in many salticid species.
