Chengdu is a up and growing city in the middle of the Sichuan province. With a population of about 11 million it is a busy city that never sleeps. The city is build on the Sichuan plains and is built around a moat that protected it from attack. 11 rivers run across the plains and around the city. There are plenty of hotels to stay at, ranging from the expensive 5 and 4 star to the travellers hotels with cheap rooms for the people who wish to save money. The city centre is full of Chinese shops, coffee houses and restaurants. The shops range from Chinese chain stores to little family run shops. The city boasts 20 universities positioned around the city with a foreign student population of about 400. Many of the bars and the restaurants speak a little English so understanding the Chinese language is not completely necessary. The city has many parks and areas to relax in, it has huge complicated designed skyscrapers that contrast with the beauty of the city. • I live in Hangzhou, and I was returning home from the mountains and spent my last night in Dave's Oasis.

I did not see the Chinese guy (Dave) who was the philosopher turned tour guide. I was greeted by another Dave, who was a really big, tall foreign white guy with a beard. (about 90% sure that the guy in 1:48 is him) This Dave told me that it was his bar and he never knew the Chinese tour guide guy (which is really odd.)

But the tour guide guy is "missing"..............

  • no way- big Dave-from Canada- is the bar manager. The owner is the Chinese Dave and he also owns- now- "Dave's Oasis 2-Pizzeria". It is just that day he was not probably around town.I know both of them.

  • Dave is a lovely guy. I first visited it in 2004 then again in 2006. Its a good place to relax have a drink, western food and meet other travellers.

So glad to see it still up and running.

Dave, will see you in 2012, when I plan to return to Chengdu!

  • I was there in July 2005 and the pizza was very good! I don't think I'll be back anytime soon, but I'd like visit China again in 2009. Please check to see if my initials are still on the back wall. They are "KCM" and my university, "Rowan University". Thanks!

  • Spent most of my time in this bar in my 9 months stay in Chengdu. I can vouch for the pizza. Great nights spent drinking 'wuwuwu pijiu', playing pool, beerpong and poker. Used to be a good, if sometimes unusual, crowd of expats and passing travelers.

  • The food there was really good, I was going to go to Shamrock, but it smelled so good I stayed there.

  • I often pass by the bar ,but I never go in and see it
