Architect Doug Look from Autodesk Labs experiments with Autodesk's design software on a Multi-Touch Wall device. The wall is an input device produced by Perceptive Pixel and invented by researcher and (TED conference luminary) Jeff Han. Autodesk Labs believes multi-touch human-computer interfaces may dramatically change how products, infrastructure, and buildings are designed.

  • Fantastic music.. please .. someone tell me who its by!

  • The music in the video is one variant of a block of music that was licensed for Autodesk as our corporate music suite. It is used for our music-on-hold, used at conferences, etc. There are several variations (ambient, happy, dark, etc.). However, I've been unable to find the original musician's name.

  • There are also desk-sized versions available that are made for personal work and don't require standing.

  • One other advantage is the large format. How many people remember the difference between doing design at 640x480 vs. doing design at 1600x1200 pixels? This screen takes that another step further. Your hands might only be able to reach a certain distance, but your eyes can see a much larger context. It is freeing.

  • Nieman, if you look in the video here you'll see Doug is not just using his fingers but also other pen-like instruments that have precise points. Donfret is correct: this screen has the advantages of a tablet plus it works with multiple fingers a the same time. You can set context or constraints with one hand and use a pen with the other for precise placement.

  • I'm laughing at all the lazy people commenting on this video!

"who wants to be standing 8 hours straight?"

umm... there are a lot of jobs that doesn't involve sitting! hehe

the only people that would have a problem with "standing for 8 hours straight" are those people that go from sitting on their asses at home to sitting on their asses at their cubicle or office!

And then we ask ourselves why americans are fat! haha

  • It looks great for presentations, but not sure how well it'll work as a design tool, you can only stand for so long. Perhaps if configured as a draftsman's table at an angle it might work.

  • Amazing sound... Please, someone.... What´s the name of the track?

  • Your a lot more active while standing and gain a 3rd person perspective on thoughts and ideas as your taking in everything around you and not just a blank screen.

  • @AutodeskLabs Ever figure out who this was by? I would kill to know.

  • this would be a techgeek/ designer, like myself's best dream come to life, just picking the perfect spot in the world, and seeing how their creation looks compared to the areas

  • @ojmardueno still laughing!

  • The future es now

  • thats so fucking awesome!!
