All of this has been done back in 2000 or later... mister house dot net is cross platform, windows, OSX, linux, and FREE. forget this guy. This stuff is available already. The components used to control the devices are at active home dot com. He is simply re-inventing the wheel.

was wondering how you programmed your speech recognition to respond to you with words. i've been playing with mine for a while now and have it working fairly well but would like that human touch of a verbal response instead of just a bing.

well, you need a mac, enable speech recognition (search system prefs), write small applescripts that are called the voice command (ie "open my report on technology"), place them in ~//Library/Speech/Speakable Items/, and have the script launch the file.
