  • David Gilmour and the people in the audience are, according to David, a bunch of fish.

  • Playing a composition in concert or via broadcast ensures that the composer is paid royalties for the performance/broadcast. How does this work? One of the major organizations is the American Society of Composers, Musicians, and Publishers (ASCAP) by which performances and broadcasts of Barrett's compositions are tracked, and royalties paid to his estate.

  • It's amazing how Dave and the others have have kept him alive when it would have been so easy to just ignore and move on,,,,,that shows the integrity that Dave and Pink Floyd have,

  • What a beautiful song...as beautiful as Dominoes!

  • Barrett's work in the post Floyd years of 1968-70 towers above most, if not all, rock artists of the time, including, it is fair to say, Pink Floyd. Barrett's solo compositions have been cited by many rock stars as deeply influential, and this composition, Terrapin, has been covered by Phish, Smashing Pumpkins. and others. For Dave Gilmore to talk as Syd as a man "with a sparkle in his eye, and a spring in his step", I find condescending. Better to note Syd's huge influence, and lasting impact.

  • David, great tribute!

  • Beautiful job, Dave. Brilliant tribute

  • @Prymer55 NAW SYD BROUGHT LUNACY THEN DAVE BROUGHT DRAMA AND SOUNDSCAPES WHILE ROGER KEPT SOME OF THE LUNACY IN BUT NOT AS MUCH PRONOUNCED AS SYD DID

  • so very nice

  • Beautiful version.

  • Well oh baby my hair's on end about you..

Yet, strangely enough, the band itself, as well as the albums Wish You Were Here, DSOTM, and a portion of The Wall's general plot all debt their very existence to Syd's lasting influence, as much as some of their greatest works -e.g. Echoes-, seem lyrically inspired by Barrett's delicate writing style. And ironically, many critics claim that Syd Barrett was possibly the single best writer of psychedelic songs, deeming The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn a great work. Genius? I believe so.

  • @p165711 hes the originator of pink floyd... he coined their name. although they sounded different that "feel" never left. his crazy and spacey deep lyrics was what sold pink floyd in the begining. the wall was nothing short of that. hes the seed that produced the 100 ft tall tree that now is pink floyd. albeit, gilmour was the best thing that ever happened to that band, even he realizes syd's approach to music was genuine. so why all of their tributes? just seems pointless...

  • @p165711 I completely disagree with your statement, Syd's started the bad so if not for him, there would be no pink floyd. In addition, his tragic decline provided the basic inspiration for some of Floyd's best work

  • Barrett was no genius, a drug addled casualty who was been transformed into some sort of folk hero legend by hippy media. Had he not burned out his brain on LSD who thinks the Pink Floyd would have gone on to do what they eventually did. There would have been no Atom Heart Mother, Meddle or Wish You Were Here. No Wall. Think about that for a moment.

  • I think is very hard to be near of the Syd version!

  • I think Syd Barrett was one of the most talented writer,singer,composer,painter...

i love his personality so much- and i can relate to him so much..

and beside all that, i think David Gilmour is truely one of the top guitar players ever- along side with Hendrix and so on...

... its too bad we don't have those kind of exceptional individuals today

may Syd rest in peace, and may Gilmour live on!
