Wythenshawe park animal attack

Yobs beheaded 18 birds and speared a frog to death in 'a shocking and distressing' attack at Wythenshawe Park, Greater Manchester. The y also poisoned carp by pouring fertiliser into a fish pond, chopped down trees and smashed around 130 windows causing £10,000 damage.

Three brothers are among four teenagers sentenced after animals were killed and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to a horticultural centre.

Gavin Wellesby (20/10/1992), of Elmbank Avenue, West Didsbury, admitted causing damage to birds and windows.

A 16-year-old boy admitted burglary and causing damage to birds and windows. His two brothers, aged 12 and 17, admitted burglary and causing damage to windows.

On Monday 30 January 2012, Wellesby was sentenced to an 18 month community order, 100 hours unpaid work and a two month curfew. The 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy were both sentenced to an 18 month youth rehabilitation order, 100 hours unpaid work and a two month curfew. Their 12-year-old brother received a 12 month referral order.

In total 172 individual panes of glass were smashed, numerous birds were beheaded, a frog was speared to death and fish were killed after a pond was filled with fertiliser. Trees and plants were also severely damaged.
