Created for the online science museum emergentuniverse.org, this dance flash mob illustrates the behavior of electrons in a superconductor. Superconductors are materials which, at very low temperatures, can conduct electric currents without any resistance. That means that the current can flow forever with no energy loss.

The exhibit on superconductivity at emergentuniverse.org will go live this summer, 2011, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the phenomenon of superconductivity. Emergentuniverse.org is sponsored by the Institute for Complex Adaptive Matter (icam-i2cam.org).

I think I saw Heisenberg in the corner with a camera trying to get a clear shot.

That was way cool. Thumb up for science and art. Two great tastes that taste great together.

There is always a little chaos in the coming together of "particles". It is not always a marching band or orchestrated ballet. Good show and ... I wish we knew enough to do such stuff ... way back when. Sit with your coffee and discuss your movements... a good way to find attractions.

Just because you don't appreciate the artistic expression of scientific principles doesn't mean it's shit. The dance is symbolic, just because it doesn't look like a club mash-up mob doesn't make it shit either, it just means you're either improperly educated or have no taste.

the only real information in the hand moves it that in each pair, the circular motion of the hand movements of one person always opposes that of their cooper pair partner, representing the opposite spins of the two electrons in a cooper pair. There is also hidden in them a wave movement and a greek psi to indicate delocalized wave function, but that's only in there for geeks. Not sure anyone noticed it.

really nice... I think I saw free single particles, then Cooper pair formation, and finally boson condensation... however, I did not get the meaning of some arm/hand moves (not spin, or?), while I bet you guys were definitely telling people something with those arm moves... could anybody tell me?
