Male fetuses that have no other anatomic or chromosomal abnormalities and show improvement in urine electrolytes may be candidates for prenatal LUTO intervention, a temporary treatment option that has improved outcomes for some patients. Female fetuses typically have a more complex anomaly that will not benefit from prenatal LUTO intervention.
Upon completion of all testing, a multidisciplinary team meets with families to review test results, discuss the diagnosis, explain treatment options and potential outcomes and answer questions. Candidates for prenatal LUTO intervention also meet with a urologist to discuss postnatal management and treatment options.
