In the beginning Sofia was strong-willed, confident, independent, and brave for even standing up to a white person during those times; but it seems all her spirit was taken after that altercation with the mayor, being mobbed by the angry crowd, and forced to work for that white lady all those years.... Very ugly times

This was so sad! The man could knock out the woman but the woman can't knock out the man! She did not have to work for some lady by force but by choice! THAT IS SO WRONG! But racism was real big back then! And the sheriff supposed to stand for the law hit her with a gun! That stinks

It's really melancholy to see that a independent woman is trying to stand up for herself gets treated like dirt all because she wouldn't work for some white lady who can't do anything for herself.
