In 2008, five high schools in our region with chronically high dropout rates started a transformation. These schools became the first network of high performing schools of the United Way Venture Fund. A perfect storm of collaborative partners, dedicated teachers, and visionary leaders came together to begin a journey that would dramatically transform these schools and is moving graduation rates from less than 60 percent to more than 80 percent in five years. Early indicators show the schools are on track, with chronic absences reduced by more than 25 percent in the first year. Here you can meet the teachers, the students, and the principals of the high performing schools of the United Way Venture Fund, and see how one movement with a single mission is giving thousands of kids in our region a better education, and a brighter future.
