Free Press launched FreeMyPhone, a campaign that calls on leaders in Washington to open up wireless networks and promote consumer choice.

The Senate Commerce Committee discussed the consumer wireless experience at a hearing, following a letter sent earlier this week to the Federal Communications Commission laying out concerns of committee members about exclusive deals struck between wireless carriers and equipment manufacturers.

  • Thank you, Senator Kerry.

  • Because mobile networks have become an essential utility across the globe, they need to be treated as such. No more contracts, no more exclusivity deals of unknown length (preferably at all, but definitely not to exceed 6 months), and no more price gauging for ultra-cheap or by-proxy services (like SMS or tethering, respectively). Give consumers back their freedom of choice and stimulate innovation and competition in the market, again. Go Senator Kerry!

  • at&t sucks! I love my iPhone 3G but I hate at&t. iPhone deserves better!

  • Free internet is the idea. Limiting it by limiting what software or activities you can use/perform, and limiting what hardware you must use is a huge step backward. It is not OK for Apple to say the only provider you can use is ATT. It is not OK for them to say you can't use any software that you want. It is certainly not OK for AT&T to tell you what internet content you can view. This should be a PC in my pocket.

  • I care. I am considering getting the new iPhone 3GS but I don't like how AT&T is blocking certain features such as tethering and the sending of video multimedia messages. I should be able to go with whatever provider I want that gives me the best service for my device. Not get stuck with crappy AT&T service just because they have an exclusive deal that makes it so.

  • who care. if you see it and want it. buy it and own it.

  • F.U. AT&T

  • Great vid.
