In Memoriam Leon Kirchner (1919-2009)

September of 2009 saw the passing of one of America's most significant composers. Leon Kirchner was born in Brooklyn, New York, of Russian immigrant parents. He grew up in California, where he would study with such masters as Arnold Schoenberg, Roger Sessions and Ernst Bloch.
This recording, entitled "Concert," is a wonderful memorial to this composer and human being.
Featuring such luminaries as Paula Robison, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Jules Eskin and many more (plus the reissue of the classic 1957 Epic recording of the "Sonata Concertante" with Eudice Shapiro, violin, and Kirchner as pianist).
Kirchner actually wrote little chamber music and we at Albany are proud to issue this recording.

We also have the complete String Quartets with the Orion String Quartet on Albany TROY1030.
