The winners of the 2010 Teen Song Writing Contest @ PARL were announced Monday, November 22nd at the 2010 Teen Song Writing Contest @ PARL Award Ceremony held at the New Glasgow Public Library. Friends, fans and family members who attended the annual ceremony were treated to an impressive collection of original material from established and young, up and coming talent. The top three winners performed their winning compositions live for the audience as they shared the stage with local professionals Dolores Dagenais, Carmel Mikol and Michael Dalton.
Antigonish County talent scored a bit of a sweep this year as Callum Gaudet took first place honors with his entry, "Heaven Has Green Grass" with second place going to fellow grade 12 student, Ray Murphy, for his song "Backwoods Road". Both winners are students of Dr. J.H. Gillis High School, Antigonish. Rounding off the top three was Clara Halfpenny from Pictou for her effort, "On the Edge." Clara is a Grade 12, home schooled student.
Together, the three winners took home over $1600.00 in prizes generously donated by local music stores and business. The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library would like to congratulate the winners and thank the sponsors for their support of music literacy.
Special thanks go out to our sponsors, Blue C Music, H & R Music, G & G Music, Music Fix, New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee, Velsoft Courseware, CKEC East Coast FM 94.1, SOCAN, Music Nova Scotia, Yamaha Canada, Walden Guitars and the Adopt A Library Literacy Program.
