  • It happens in February or March, no specific date. Usually on the first warmish day at the end of winter. In 2010 it was on March 16 (in the mountains of southern Pennsylvania). I remember because family was visiting and the thaw was dramatic after three monster snowstorms in February.

  • where do they live near? like lakes ponds or streams?

  • They leave in the leaf litter on the forest floor.

  • Hey I want to keep a pair or a trio of wood frogs. I have a 10g and I hear I can either catch em or just special order captive bred ones from carolina bio or something. SOO I was wondering. What substrate to use. Can I use real live plants? Can I put the center of the tank a "vernal pool"? with maybe just a small filter? What kinds of foods would be best for it? And would it be a good pet. IF I got it captive bred?

  • Wood frogs are wild animals. I do not recommend keeping them. Find a vernal (springtime) pond in the woods and enjoy their celebration in March (assuming you live in the northern U.S.). They do not live in that pond. They go there to breed. They live on the forest floor.

  • Well I hear you can keep some captive bred some :l I really enjoy them. And their calling pretty much is kinda cool to hear :C Either that or a leopard frog.

  • The only time that they call is for the brief few days in the late winter when they are breeding on a wild vernal (only there in the spring) pond. Please think about putting some energy into helping frogs in the wild instead of capturing them. Thanks!

  • Susan this is a great video, I like the creativity you put into it, (time). I love nature and have been trying to learn the different frog calls I hear on my property, (Western NY area) very wet around my land! I hear the little wood frogs and chorus frogs, but NEVER see them!! Have only seen Leopard and Green frogs. Thanks!

  • what month was this? How far into the month~

  • @MysterySusan lol peta. if your going to keep a wild caught animal try to catch it young so it isnt used to the outside world.

  • Cast of thousands! and may their numbers be always large. Do the little peeper frogs that climb up the trees to sing all summer breed the same way?

  • what does this say about cryonics

    ???
