GREAT !! =) thanX

@InsideTheWall41 you don't need to rev match or heel and toe when downshifting, it just feels more jerky when you don't
-
can someone explain downshifting in detail to me cause I've heard you need to rev match and other fancy crap like that and not one of these videos give a simple easy to follow explanation on how to downshift if someone could explain that would be helpful

When starting out in 1st gear do you clutch half way to engagement point then apply gas, or apply gas, release the clutch to engagement point then slowly release after 10mph?

@GuitarGuyBLAH Hey I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse 5 speed too... What suggestions do you give me to drive it??? It's my first car as well as my first time driving stick shift
-
Nice music tastes! The video was exceptionally helpfull since I am actually about to get a 2000 accord EX 5spd, so it shows me how the car actually moves and reacts. Thanks! Best instructional video I've seen yet.

This is a great instructional vid, except for what you were saying about coming completely off the clutch before starting to apply gas. If you do this method, unless your rpms drop really slow or you are very quick off the clutch, it will never be a smooth gear change. The proper way to shift is to let off until grabbing point, then to start applying gas proportional to the amount needed to be at the correct rpms in the next gear. If done correctly this provides the smoothest gear change.

Aw, you think you're cool pulling off that e-brake stop at 5:45! XD Just kidding! Anyway, very great instructional videos on how to drive a manual transmission car; I find these instructionals from guys like you and TheDerekMoore really useful, since I am working toward getting my driver's license, getting a job and getting an MT-equipped car within the next 18-30 months.

@GuitarGuyBLAH go by your ear, say it idles at like 750 rpm's, you should shift up in casual road use at about 2500-3500 rpm's. remember, the lower the rpm's the less sensitive the gas is, and the less power.

please please please please let my school let me pick my own project for a video so i can do something like this!!
good job bud :)
what if ur on the highway COASTING, and the rpm's are low because ur COASTING and the person in front brakes and then u brake, wont u stall the car?????

@sergsrt8 unless you're car has crazy gear ratios, you'll probably still be in the 3-4,000 rpm range on the highway in your highest gear (assuming about 65 mph that is). if you're just slowing down there should be no issue; however an emergency situation where you're slamming the brakes to cut speed dramatically or even stop will most likely require you to downshift, or to at least press the clutch in... keep in mind too that when i say "dramatically" i mean down to somewhere under 20 mph-ish

Everybody does it wrong, You're supposed to release the clutch BEFORE getting on the throttle, You don't need 2.5k RPM to get a car rolling from a stop, 800-1000 is enough torque. Cool video otherwise.

@l337Jeff I agree with you in some ways, especially about the 2.5k RPM, but I exaggerated a lot of things in the video for the sake of making it easier on those new to driving stick... I know when I was first learning it helped me at first to give it a little extra gas to get the car moving so you don't stall. Thanks for the comments though
