What was a nice, clear, Valentine's day quickly turned into a whiteout due to high winds and blowing snow.
This drastic drop in visibility and high winds played a role in the crash of this Casa (212?) just short of the runway about a 1/2 mile from town.
Both pilots walked away from this crash, no damage to the engines or wings. The left main and front gear were severely damaged.
The plane was towed off the ice the next day using wooden pallets, UHMW freight sleds, ratchet straps, and a tracked vehicle.
If he'd just used his Eskimo ADF.
