No one butchered the song, it s called taking the higher part mostly. It s vet difficult for both women and men to sing lead in the same key and since they all tool a turn some singers have to jump to a higher register to be able to sing that section. Travis tritt sings like that all the time. Eye brow guy was Hal ketchum and Martina didn't screw up at all. Much as I love Dolly -- and I certainly do! -- it would have been a nice touch if Carlene Carter had been the one to lead off "Let the Circle be Unbroken", since she is a descendant of the Carter Family.
