When I first saw "Empire of the Sun" I was 17 and I was really deep into J.G. Ballard's novels and a great fan of Steven Spielberg's movies. I grew up with movies like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T.", so I thought it was wonderful that my favourite director had made a movie based on a Ballard's novel. With its extraordinary emotional and visual power, this movie became one of my all times favourites and the young debutant Christian Bale conquered me forever with his natural grace and extraordinary talent.
It was not easy to chose a song that fitted perfectly with the spirit of this movie. I tried to use the original John Williams soundtrack but, although it worked perfectly with the movie, it didn't fit with a 5 minitues video. So I chose Mariah Carey's "Hero", whose lyrics and powerful motive gave me the inspiration I was looking for.
