The Twins opening video that plays before every home game at Target Field.

All of the 3D graphics including all of the different boards (Ribbon Boards, Bullpen, Scoreboard, and Out of Town Boards) were done by Pixel Farm. A team of 4 people did a large majority of videos.

The Opening video is broken into multiple sections. A nostalgic intro that was done by Tony. A recent highlight section, the lineup, pitcher stats, and a matted frame for live video before the pitcher takes the mound.

I did all of the 3D and compositing from the end of the nostalgic section on. It was done in Maya and composited in Nuke. The nuke composites for each shot include geometry and camera information imported from Maya to allow any of the highlight clips to be quickly swapped out.

After the end of the opening video the Twins logo locks for over 4 minutes playing a looping bed of music. On cue the control room switches the video to a different video track playing Gardenhire and the rest of the lineup. The entire 40 man roster is rendered in case of injury or other circumstances. I was also asked by scoreboard operations to make a large empty panel for the starting pitchers stats. Afterwards a matted frame is revealed allowing them to show live game footage or a montage reel of the previous games/series.

  • did pixelfarm also do the Jon Rauch intro? Because that also rules.

  • @dfarkins

Yes a co-worker Chad Retrum did the Rauch video that plays in the 9th inning. Weve also seen it on FSN a couple times.

We scheduled a time for him to come into Pixel Farm for a small video shoot. I was his stand-in while we set everything up. Because hes almost 7' tall I had to stand on a wooden crate while we positioned the lights and camera.

  • so what happens if there is a call-up that starts for the Twins (someone who wasn't on the 40-man roster to start the year...and isn't already rendered)?

  • @dfarkins If there was someone that was starting that wasn't even on the roster they would be put in a blank template that has the glass wall / twins emblem. All the video on the glass panels was shot in Fort Myers so if they wanted a new fully finished lineup graphic and At-Bat they would have to come to pixelfarm or go to some other green screen studio to get filmed. And from there it would be about a one day turn around to render the finished quicktimes and walk them to Target Field.
