This was a very scary but fun bridge called John P. Grace Memorial Bridge that used to cross the cooper river in South Carolina
it was part of route 17 southbound
opened on august 8 1929 and showed severe wear and tare.
Water could be seen through the cracks and it had intense rust and deterioration .
you never knew if it would collapse at any moment .
it was the first bridge to be called a roller coaster bridge . because of narrow width and extreme curves and great heights .
hope you enjoy a last ride over with my family .

  • Scary stuff, eyes forward, hands positioned at "10 and 2 o'clock", all cell phones silenced or muted. That beast was holding on by coat of paint. Its no wonder it scored only a 4 out of 100 (4%), or an F, in safety.

I remember having to ride Grace aboard a school bus. Did we have to stop because of traffic of course. Could we feel the bridge rattle and sway to and fro as if we were in a high city building? sure why not. Fun Times

  • @SouthChineseTiger I would never made it through School

  • Wow, what memories this brings back. Driving back from friends that lived on Sullivans Island back to my place on Folly Beach on a Honda 350 twin motorcycle stoned. Damn near locked up from paranoia a few times. Good times!

  • @53moreHP My best friend lives on Folly beach

thats is how we first found this bridge

  • dude, try driveing over a wooden bridge that has been corroded by moss, waves, and a lot of other stuf

  • Dude This was the Moss family in the car

  • ohh, captain bravery. gonna go watch a horror movie and pat yourself back cuz you weren't scared like the chick you brought? gonna go skydive and pretend you're a badass for the rest of your life? gonna go make "i'm cooler than you cuz i'm not scared" comments on youtube?

Yeah man, nothing could ever scare you and you're just freakin awesome.

Really, you're the coolest guy ever. I will let you pass me, out of SHEER FUCKING RESPECT. Spraypaint "SOULTAKER" on your windshield. I'll do it.

  • Well, the bridge over Tacoma Narrows wasn't funny either. It wasn't called "Galopping Gertie" for nothing.

  • my mom was born in mt.pleasant and she went on that bridge her entire life. i went on that bridege for the longest ime till the new one. stop being little girls. i was built for a reason and it met that quota in its expected life time.

  • Google Earth, See it from sky view. Search: 32°48'12.19"N 79°55'13.70"W in Google Earth, and time travel back to 2005 and prior. ;-) Rest Easily Grace

  • Thank you Arthur Ravenel Jr. for replacing grace.

  • i remember going across that scary ass bicth as a child

  • Old Cooper River bridge exploded after the new Arthur Ravenel bridge was opened

  • If you dont believe what I said about paint holding this bridge together, check the newpaper reports and old DOT saftey reports from the bridge. Also this video doesnt tell you that Charleston is on a fault line and experts said this bridge would probably collapse from just a weak tremor. There was no run-off room on this bridge and unless you were in a compact you would barely have enough room to stay in your lane. Lots of bad, deadly accidents on this bride.

  • Im from Charleston originally and crossed that bridge maybe a 1000 times before they demolished it and i can say that i allways felt good when I got to the other side. Watching from the video does not do it justice. You had to read the report from the newspapers to truely appreciateb how dangerous this brideg was. DOT said it should be replaced back in the mid 70's. The support beams were so rusted that the only thing helping them to stay together was THE PAINT ON THE BRIDGE.

  • More drama. This is nothing. Floor it and get on over it. No big deal.
