Take your time, don't do it before he's ready.

I would highly recommend doing some "approach and retreat". If the horse is comfortable with you touching his neck (for example), do some friendly rubbing on his neck. Then rub down a bit towards the shoulder, then back up to the neck. Do this repeatedly, retreating to the neck before he gets bothered. Eventually make your way to the shoulder as you 'friendly game' rubbing it. It will most likely take a few sessions to be able to get all the way to the shoulder.

Thankyou for sharing this. I recently bought a 1yr and 5month old colt, he is a little nervous with people touching him passed the shoulders. We have bought the carrot stick and the parelli rope so will be trying the friendly game with him to gain mroe trust.

That is so cool. I can do most of that with my mares but I need to work on it more. I may try it tomorrow if I have time=)

I know this, I do it to, but I never knew this was parelli
Your horse seems very relaxed. Might I suggest a little more rhythm in your game
