The Birhor are extremely poor. They have very few personal possessions. Their hunting tools are primitive. They live in shelters made of branches and other available materials, which are assembled almost nightly as they travel through the jungle.
The Birhor's nomadic lifestyle is based on the migration of the monkeys, their primary source of food. Tribal society among the Birhor is very family oriented and cooperative with one another. Most villages consist of ten to fifteen families living and working together. They assist one another in hunting and share what they have with others. The family unit is extremely important to them. Marriage is considered to elevate their status among others in the tribe. The Birhor are a loving and faithful; although divorce and remarriage is considered acceptable to them, it is very rare.
