The one and only Astrud Gilberto, undisputed Queen of Bossa Nova.
This video was from a performance at the Warwick Musical Theatre in Rhode Island.
This aired as a TV special 'Popendipity' on Nov 16, 1967 and featured many other pop and RnR acts.

  • Astrud Gilberto wasn't "The Girl from Ipanema." When Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote the song, he was doing so about a pretty woman that he used to see in his Ipanema neighborhood in Rio de Janiero. Astrud is from the Bahia region of Brazil, and was married to Joao Gilberto, the Father of Bossa Nova.

  • oh my god she's amazing

  • So sensual.... without trying.

    Those glancing eyes....

Anyone could fall in love with this person..... Astrud.

  • Purity...

  • Y'know, the words just get stuck in my throat....

  • Haha. I don't think he meant that Astrud was the Girl from Ipanema, I think he was just referring to what she got so famous on ;)

  • You cannot catagorize this voice in one style of music.

    That voice is angelic.

The style is pure class.... that's how was in the 60's !

  • im in love with this woman

  • The really "Girl from Ipanema" is Helô Pinheiro, not Astrud Gilberto.
